Depression

Depression– what is it?
Depression has been described as severe despondency, dejection; feelings of hopelessness and inadequacy often combined with guilt, lack of energy, and the inability maintain interest in life.

Understanding Depression
Classified as a mood disorder, individuals enduring depression tend to lose interest in activities that once were pleasurable and fun as it moves to severe depression. Some people with extreme depression may contemplate or attempt suicide. Most depression sufferers experience one, or a combination of the following:

  • loss of appetite or overeating
  • problems concentrating or remembering details or making decisions

Other common symptoms of depressive illness are:

  • insomnia/ waking early
  • excessive sleeping
  • fatigue
  • loss of energy
  • aches, pains or digestive problems

Depression causes powerful mental and physical suffering that has serious consequences for a person’s happiness and motivation.

Why can’t traditional methods fix depression?
Traditional therapies focus on the symptoms not the cause. Psychotherapy spends a lot of therapy time searching for individual triggers and the history of these triggers. Psychoanalysis spreads its talk therapy out, often over a number of years and relies often on medication to help manage the symptoms; again not the cause.

Why Beat The Blues Retreat does work for depression
Clients suffering from depression make up the largest group attending our programs. Beat The Blues approach to depression disorders is completely different to traditional methods that are low on results. Our solution has three major components:

  • We only use Fountainhead Method ™, trained life coaches. “The Fountainhead Method™ is the number one system for understanding stress and its application to health in the world today” [1]
  • Journey Therapy supports it. Developed originally by American author Brandon Bays similar to time line therapy but different in that the focuses is not only to identify your patterns of behaviour and its origin – but to change the pattern then and there. “Where was this when I was studying psychology at University”[2]
  • It is underpinned by Mindfulness training, which has existed for millennia but has only been explained scientifically the last twenty years.  “One has to try to develop one’s inner feelings, which can be done simply by training one’s mind.” [3]

What the experts say
The Anti Depression Association of Australia (ADAA); recently interviewed author Michelle Mark who confirms this new approach to treatment for depression: “When you need help with depression, the real work needed to reduce it for the long term is not done by changing how you feel. This is a temporary solution at best. Changing the root cause of that emotional response does the real work. Those who suffer from depression must look beyond the effects, and go back to the cause. The Fountainhead Method™ shows you how to do this”.

“During March and April I had the great fortune to attend Fountainhead Health Retreat at Maleny.
My main interest was in attending the lectures on ‘The Causes and Cures of Depression.’  Having attended countless seminars already and studied many different philosophies and religions over several decades I was determined that I did not want to hear just more of the same.
The Fountainhead Retreat is set in 50 acres of the most beautiful country in Australia. The accommodation, meals and facilities are all first class. The very friendly staff go to great lengths to ensure that all guests feel pampered and take care of all their needs.
After a very short time at Fountainhead I felt like I was home and the staff and guests were all family. It is that sort of a place. I was so reluctant to leave that I extended my stay twice and then returned after two weeks at home in Perth.
My friends and family were all amazed at the incredible difference just a few weeks at Fountainhead had made to my physical appearance, my energy levels and my outlook on life.
I would unreservedly recommend Fountainhead to anyone seeking some quality time out from their daily life to reflect, re-prioritize and re-energize all aspects of their life.
For anyone experiencing depression I believe that a week at Fountainhead with Greg Neville will prove to be much more effective than years of conventional therapy.
Best wishes and my sincerest gratitude”
Dave Fitzgerald.
